Authors: Jaclyn Osborn, Nicky James
Release Date: January 6th 2017
Genre: MM Romance, fantasy
Living in his twin brother’s too perfect shadow, Evander Galanis has struggled to prove himself a worthy heir to the throne. It seems the only thing he excels at is disappointing his father. Impulsive, spoiled, and surrounded by an air of entitlement, he doesn’t yet understand what it means to be king. When he is left in charge one day in his father’s absence, he has the opportunity to prove his worth, but makes a grave mistake that costs him everything. Disgraced and stripped of his title, he flees the castle in a rush of anger.
Deep in the forest, alone and unwanted, lives a mysterious forestling, Mathias. Mathias isn’t like others. With the ability to foresee people’s death, he believes himself to be cursed. Feared and misunderstood by everyone, the only family Mathias has are his forest friends. Until, one day, a stranger wanders into his home and refuses to leave.
Two worlds collide when the entitled Prince and the naive forest boy meet. Evander and Mathias are like night and day, but they can’t fight the connection between them. When Mathias’ visions shed blood on his family, Evander needs to decide if he will risk the man he’s grown to love to save the Kingdom that cast him out, or leave them to their fate.
“By the gods, I order you to identify yourself.” He took several steps forward, pointing the blade at my throat. His damp black hair hung a little over his right eye, and the intensity of his blue-eyed stare chilled me to the bone. “Drop your knife, boy.”
Just like that, my bravery evaporated and my fingers let go of my knife, sending it clattering to the ground. “T-this is my house. W-what are you doing here?”
“I am here because I choose to be,” he snarled. “Now, I’ll ask again. Who are you?”
“M-Mathias. Who are y-you?” I stammered.
He furrowed his brow. “Mathias? What kind of name is that?” It seemed like he asked the question more to himself than to me, so I remained silent. “You should know me, boy. Everybody knows me. Or have you been living under a rock your entire existence?”
Was this some kind of a joke? The man was a complete stranger. I’d never seen him before in my life. All I knew was he was in my home, uninvited, and had his sword pressed to my throat. I couldn’t move. He looked seriously off kilter and I didn’t trust him.
He glared at me, waiting for an answer, so I shook my head watching the sapphire flames burn in his eyes.
After kicking aside my discarded knife, he lowered his sword from my throat, but didn’t sheathe it. “I am Prince Evander Galanis of Talena, son of King Aison.”
Son of the King? This was making less and less sense. Why on Earth would the Prince of Talena be in my home?
With my neck no longer in jeopardy of being opened, I tried to remove the reforming lump in my throat with no luck. Backing up a few steps to be closer to the exit, I didn’t take my eyes off the crazy prince in front of me.
“I- I didn’t know that. I’m sorry… sir?”
The prince rolled his eyes. “I’m not your sir. You may address me as Royal Highness or Prince. Never sir. Do you live in this wretched place?”
With the Prince of Crazy calming a bit, I became a little defensive. “Wretched? It’s not wretched. Yes, I live here. It’s my home and you are wrecking it.”
Finally sheathing his sword, he then motioned to everything around him. “Well, your home is filthier than my stables. And the smell isn’t far off either.”
“If you don’t like it, then leave,” I snapped. “I didn’t ask you to come here.”
The expression on his face was almost comical. He looked absolutely stunned. “What did you say? You cannot speak to me in that way. I’m a Prince, watch your tone, boy. If I wished, I could have you thrown in the stocks for that remark.”
