Title: Kissing Alex
Author: R J Scott
Series: Bodyguards, Inc. #6
Release Date: April 25th 2016
Genre: M/M Romance
Martial arts expert Lewis is the kind of bodyguard who slips under most people’s radar. Quiet, reserved, but constantly on alert, he’ll do his job, keep his charges safe, then relax by reading Shakespeare in his spare time.
When he’s given a case involving a spoiled celebrity singer, Lewis isn’t all that impressed. The job is nothing but babysitting a pretty boy, and he’s used to diplomatic postings with depth and challenge. What could he possibly have in common with the man he’s being forced to look after?
Alex became the envy of many when he and his fellow bandmates won second place in a huge TV talent show. He has more money than he knows what to do with, no life goals, an ex-boyfriend selling a sex tape and now, someone who wants him dead, or at the very least maimed.
Can Lewis keep Alex safe, even when things usually in his control go to hell? Is running to a remote Scottish island the only way for them to stay alive?
Kissing Alex is the sixth book in RJ Scott’s Bodyguards Inc series, in which the reader has watched the male members of the team steadily fall in love, usually with the men they are assigned to protect. Although Kissing Alex is part of this series, it can be easily read as a stand-alone.
Alex is a member of Twelfth Wonder, a boyband spawned from the latest reality TV talent show. Lewis is the bodyguard who is given the job of taking care of Alex, who is now the target of the Asarov’s, a Russian family well-known for illegal imports and exports, particularly drugs.
Alex and Lewis’ relationship does not start well. The friction between them is caused by the fact that Lewis has to work on his regular monthly holiday and has to take Alex with him to his home on the Scottish island of Stormeil. Alex is anxious and stressed because his one-night stand with Roman Asarov resulted in the leak of a sex tape neither men realised was being filmed and he is now being used as a pawn to stop Roman giving evidence against his family.
Lewis initially sees Alex as a spoilt star who he suspects of taking drugs, whilst Alex thinks Lewis is obnoxious and judgemental, yet he offers Alex safety.
R J Scott brings the island of Stoirmeil to life in Kissing Alex, with all its ruggedness and romance. It is on the island that Alex and Lewis start to learn more about each other and the sexual tension between them grows.
As the Laird of Stoirmeil Lewis takes his responsibilities for looking after the island seriously, as he does his responsibility for being Alex’s bodyguard. The reader senses his professional versus personal struggle, but once the two men kiss we know there is no going back for either of them.
Stoirmeil brings out the best in both Alex and Lewis’ characters and R J Scott ensures that we love these two men. Their passion for each other, as well as the island, is something that leaves a lasting impression on the reader.
Kissing Alex is obviously a romance but I was unsure of the ‘L’ word being used between Alex and Lewis after such a short time. However, I have never been in the position of someone protecting me when my life is in danger :-)!
Kissing Alex is another wonderful story by R J Scott. She perfectly combines the romance with danger; the family drama with steamy sex scenes and the beauty of Stoirmeil with that of her protagonists. A must read!
