Ann Lister released her first full-length gay romance novel in 2013 and the wildly popular Rock Gods series now has 5 books!
Entertainment journalist, Ryan Pierce, meets the infamous bad-boy rocker, Dagger Drummond, and walks away with a great interview and a scandalous news bit that has the potential to turn the music world on its ear. Exposing the story would boost Ryan’s career, but it would also come with the risk of ruining Dagger’s privacy – and possibly his Rock God status.
The unlikely friendship that develops between Dagger and Ryan brings Ryan to question more than just his journalistic oath to report the news. It also forces him to take a look at himself and newly discovered feelings – feelings that make Ryan blind to the risk of becoming front page news himself.
Will Ryan find the courage to make a life decision to give himself true happiness with Dagger or take the path that would likely lead to heartbreak and destroy his career forever?
Mega rock star, Alex “Zander” Metcalf is burned out after nearly two years touring with his band, as well as emotionally drained after his sexual preferences were exposed by the media. He is ready for a long sabbatical – alone, and retreats to the east coast island of Martha’s Vineyard; leasing an oceanside estate.
Alex seeks the quiet lifestyle of a recluse to write new material for his band, only to meet the handsome estate manager, Chase, and his gorgeous fiancée, Danni, living in the guest house on his property. Alex’s hope of solitude is soon forgotten when he discovers Chase has a repressed bi-sexual side that is aching to surface and Alex is more than happy to help him explore it.
What neither Alex or Chase expects is the emotional power of their chemistry expanding to involve the three of them when Danni becomes entangled in their passion. Alex believes he has finally found his perfect menage relationship with Chase and Danni.
Sometimes two isn’t enough and it takes three to complete the union of a fulfilled love. But, will their new relationship be strong enough to survive when real life wants to punish them for their unconventional love? And, can they be confident in the strength of their love to take the ‘happily ever after’ they can only give each other?
Cooper Rand is the high-energy drummer for his band Ivory Tower. Everyone is drawn to Cooper; which makes him the go-to party guy for those lucky enough to call him friend. He loves the lifestyle that comes along with being a rock star and feels perfectly suited for the role. He is also a professional when it comes to the hook-up, unwilling to stick around long enough to allow emotions to enter into what he’s doing. He’s lived his entire life ‘in the moment’ and it isn’t until he meets Jayson that he begins to question the direction of his life and if he’s been missing out on something truly special all this time.
Jayson Keller has spent most of his life living on the island of Martha’s Vineyard working as a builder. Living on a small, conservative island also has Jayson working overtime to keep his sexual orientation secret. He has mastered the art of hiding in the closet, but he doesn’t want it to be a forever thing. Jayson always said if the right man came along he’d happily leave the safety of his closet and live openly as a gay man. The problem is, living where he does limits his partner options and finding someone worth coming out of that closet for seems an unlikely prospect.
A party at Alex Metcalf’s island estate brings Cooper and Jayson face-to-face. Lightning strikes hot and fast and suddenly their lives take a whole new path. Has Jayson finally met a man worth leaving his self-imposed closet? Have a couple of hours spent alone with Jayson opened Cooper to the idea there is a deeper meaning to life beyond the stage and the value of a committed relationship? But, a bigoted family and the rock star lifestyle could ruin everything and keep both men searching for what was standing right in front of them: a soul mate.
Mick Wheland, Ivory Tower’s bad-boy guitarist, has recently realized two important things about himself. He prefers sex with men over women, and the idea of a committed relationship doesn’t scare him as much as it once did. He’s seen the positive effects of love from watching his band-mates find life partners, and now he’s thinking he might be ready for the same himself. The problem is knowing where to look for Mr. Right, and living out of a suitcase while touring with a band is not exactly conducive to finding real love.
Sonny (Rooster) Roostarelli leaves the seclusion of his Vancouver cabin, where he went to lick his wounds after a contentious divorce, and moves back to Los Angeles. He claims relocating to L.A. is for business purposes, but now that the dust has settled on his failed marriage, Rooster feels he might finally be ready to settle down – with a man.
A chance encounter for Wheland and Rooster on a busy L.A. street rekindles an old friendship between the two professional musicians. Rooster needs a short-term place to stay and Wheland has plenty of extra space at his hillside estate and that lands Rooster in Wheland’s guest room. What starts out as a music collaboration opportunity quickly turns personal when the chemistry they have becomes too strong to ignore and soon the music they’re making spills from the studio and into the bedroom.
The road is a grueling bitch musicians love to hate. Being on stage under the hot lights can sometimes be the only place they feel comfortable and alive. Can two high-profile rock stars make a life together in such an artificial world – on and off the stage… or will past mistakes and family secrets keep them from finding their forever?
Tony Wilcox, the quiet keyboard player for Ivory Tower, has always believed he was straight. A sexual encounter with his best friend leaves Tony questioning his heart and the unwavering attraction he has for Jared. Living and working together is no longer enough for Tony… he wants more. He wants Jared as his.
Jared Baker, the bass player for the band, has a past that is getting in the way of him fully embracing what he wants… Tony. He’s tried everything to create distance between them, but none of it eliminated the feelings he has developed for Tony.
Trying to suppress the anger and confusion from Jared withdrawing from his life, Tony does his best to get beyond the feelings he has for his friend. When Jared becomes deathly ill, it’s Tony that he calls for help and Tony has to decide if he can heal Jared without giving away too much of his heart.
Can best friends find their way to true love and discover if they were meant for each other, or will the challenges of life force them to choose separate paths?
When Ann Lister agreed to feature on Male Monday I wanted to think of a fun guest post and so asked her to think of a party plan for one of her books. She really threw herself into this and for any fans of the Rock Gods series this is a treat!
Beach Party It Is!
I am so excited. Alex, Chase, and Danni are hosting a party at their ocean side estate on Martha’s Vineyard at the end of the summer. As I was the author who wrote the story of their romance, they extended an invitation to me, as well as a free pass to tag along with Danni while she made all the final party preparation decisions with the event planner. I’m not sure I can accurately describe how thrilled I am to have this kind of unlimited access to one of their parties, because everyone knows Alex, Chase, and Danni know how to throw a party!
The get-together is to mark the anniversary of their commitment ceremony, which took place on the beach in front of this enormous house three years ago. What the invited guests won’t know is the party is also for Tony and Jared to celebrate them jumping out of the closet recently at the Billboard Awards.
Even with a baby on her hip, Danni went about finalizing the details to their event with me at her side. Working closely with the party planner, she over-thought every last detail, from the size of the white tent to be set up in their backyard beside the pool, to the polished silver serving trays on the buffet table. The one detail that both Alex and Chase refused to budge on was that this party would be “family style” to reflect their relaxed lifestyle and the love they had for the friends they considered family.
Twenty linen covered tables were placed under the tent, with wildflowers set inside melon-sized pumpkins for center pieces, and each were surrounded by flickering candles in crystal votive cups. The ceiling of the tent was decorated with strips of satiny fabric loosely draped and all in fall colors. The fabric was then laced with tiny white strings of lights that when illuminated looked like thousands of stars. I have to admit, walking into that decorated tent for the first time with Danni before the guests arrived brought tears to my eyes. It looked so romantic; it was obvious a woman had put her stamp on the details.
Danni and I laughed about what a party planned by Alex and the guys in Ivory Tower would look like: a couple dozen or so folding beach chairs set up in a circle on the sand with an enormous bonfire burning in the center and several big coolers, the kind you could hide a body inside, would be loaded up with imported beer on ice and positioned close to the chairs so no one would have to exert too much effort to get another beer! The other detail they’d be sure to include would be a few acoustic guitars, a mouth harp, and a couple of bongos for Cooper to go wild on. That was their idea of the perfect party, and they had several parties just like that every year, but every once in a while, Alex supported Danni’s need to plan a little something of her own.
Danni and I left the tent with enough time to go slip into our party clothes and meet an hour later downstairs in the kitchen of the estate just as the first of the guests were beginning to arrive. It was thrilling watching all the celebrities walking into the house and even directed a few outside to enjoy the appetizers and free-flowing cocktails out in the tent. Was I nervous? Hell, yes! But honestly, it was more excitement that had all the tiny fine hairs on my arms standing on end.
Cooper entered the tent with Jayson at his side and Tony and Jared weren’t too far behind. Alex and Chase were greeting guests by the door of tent, while Danni was double checking on her catering team. My God! To see the gorgeous men from Ivory Tower all in one place like this was truly a heart-stopping event.
The surf and turf menu of lobster tail and porterhouse steak was incredible and the soft music being pumped in through the outside sound system was the perfect enhancement to encourage conversations between the guests. After dinner the caterer brought out two separate cakes. The first cake was a three tier lemon cake with butter cream frosting that Alex, Chase, and Danni cut and fed each other bites. The second was a surprise a colorful, one-tier arched rainbow cake for Tony and Jared. This cake was meant to be a teasing proclamation of Tony and Jared’s new relationship and for the most part, they took the gesture in stride. After all, there weren’t many around that didn’t know Tony and Jared were together, so the cake wasn’t all that much of a surprise. Even still, the faces of our very “private twosome” were more colorful than their rainbow cake!
Once the last of the food plates were removed from the tables, everyone filtered down the wooden pathway through the dunes and out onto the private beach in front of the estate. That’s where Alex and Chase had a bonfire roaring and ready for their guests and the coolers were sitting nearby and loaded with the beer. And, just as Danni and I had visualized, a few dozen folding beach chairs were all set up in a circle around the fire. Cooper was already banging on his bongos, and Alex was strumming on an acoustic guitar singing in the deep, raspy voice he was known around the world for.
Danni and I were standing behind the beach chairs listening to Alex sing, when Wheland came up beside us. His larger than life presence nearly buckled my knees. I watched him lean down to kiss Danni on the cheek and heard him thank her for the party.
“I’m really glad you enjoyed my party, but we all know the party everyone came for is here on the beach with Alex’s band of merry revelers,” Danni teased.
“Merry? Is that some new politically correct way of saying gay?” Wheland winked at her.
“I think both parties were perfect,” I offered my two cents, but it was the truth. While I loved the relaxed formality of Danni’s tent party, this gathering on the beach was priceless.
Thank you so much Ann!
