Jake Harrison is everything that Haven Daniels hates about men: over-confident, born into money and too handsome for his own good. Haven finds it difficult to keep her opinions to herself and can’t help but tell Jake exactly what she thinks of him, again and again.
Haven Daniels is uptight, smart and a bit of a bitch – the perfect challenge for Jake. It doesn’t hurt that she’s movie star beautiful and has no idea.
Forced to work together, verbal sparring turns into sexual chemistry but men like Jake are trouble and Haven has had enough trouble to last her a lifetime.
Will Haven give into Jake’s charms? Can Jake peel off Haven’s prickly mask, revealing the woman he knows lies beneath?
What the Lighting Sees – Part One is the first part in a three part novella series.
In the first novella in her new series, Louise Bay asks us to take a leap into the cut-throat world of magazine journalism.
What the Lightning Sees is fast-paced; at times funny and at others cringe-worthy, but I was hooked, particularly by the main characters, Harry and Haven. It is these two which distinguish this first part of What the Lightning Sees from other contemporary romances. Harry is not quite an alpha male or player. He works hard for the small fortune he has and is intelligent. Haven is not healing from a broken-heart and does not fall in love with Harry the first time she meets him. Haven is not ‘one of the girls’. Instead she is bullied by her female colleagues because of her physical appearance. Haven is perhaps a little too obsessive about her job and yes she can be a bitch, but yet we still love her!
Although we know that Harry and Haven’s romance will develop due to the nature of the story, Louise Bay makes us wait for their first kiss! The atmosphere between these two sizzles with an expectancy, but Louise Bay ensures that we understand that their relationship is built on more than lust.
The sex scenes in What the Lightning Sees reveal the couple’s passion; they develop naturally without being forced and do not cross into the realm of erotica.
So, let’s talk about the ending! It will make you stamp your feet, shout abuse at Louise Bay and search all electronic devices to check this is not an ARC which is missing pages! And I might’ve sulked a little too! But yes you will want the sequel . . . . .
What the Lightning Sees is an awesome beginning to the series!
About the Author
I write sexy, romantic, contemporary novels – the kind I like to read!
Ruined by romantic mini-series of the seventies and eighties, I love all things romantic. There’s not enough of it in real life so I’ll settle for books and films.
I love the rain, the West Wing, London, days when you don’t have to wear make-up, being alone, being with friends, elephants and champagne.
