The Bourne Identity meets Mr. and Mrs. Smith for the New Adult crowd.
Members of the CIA’s specialized team Sparrow, who investigate specifically into black market deals involving stolen medical research, were all murdered in one quick sweep. Drew and Samantha, team five-nine, have been more than just partners since their academy training days. Safeguarding their secret tryst from everyone in their professional lives, they trust no one but themselves. But when Samantha finds herself suspiciously spared and Drew missing, she doesn’t want to believe what the CIA claims – that Drew is not only alive and has defected from their organization, but is facilitating the deaths of prominent research developers worldwide. Now the only member of Sparrow who hasn’t been killed off, Samantha finds herself under serious investigation by association – and a prisoner within her own home.
Just when she’s on the verge of being labeled a murderer and a traitor herself, Drew activates a beacon only she can see, taunting her from across the world. He knows she’s watching, and she knows he could be gone forever if she doesn’t oblige his silent request. With nothing left to lose and everything to gain, Sam goes rogue to track him down and clear her good name. But when she finally catches up to her partner of four years, he hasn’t a clue who he is or what he’s done, and the men chasing him down suddenly want to acquire her as well.
Frantic yet determined, Samantha is forced to protect a man she no longer trusts in order to learn why he went astray – and why his associates are determined to retrieve him. But is Drew really a victim himself in a much greater scheme, or will his memories prove lethal, leading Sam into harm’s way like a lamb to slaughter, ultimately risking the life of the only member of Sparrow he managed to save?
New Adult Romantic Spy Thriller

Sparrow 59 is hugely different than any book I have read recently. Devon Ashley combines romance, action and espionage to create Mission Impossible meets James Bond!
Sam is a member of the Sparrow program, working for the CIA as a retrieval operative. After a successful mission in Germany, Sam is hit with a tranquilizer dart whilst the rest of her Sparrow team members are being killed. All but Drew, her partner, who disappears. Sam’s relationship with Drew is difficult; they complete their CIA missions as a married couple, but in private their real marriage is a secret.
Sam returns back to the CIA headquarters, desperate to find Drew, but after a month of no contact it is obvious that the both of them will be used as scapegoats for the destruction of the Sparrow project. Until the moment Drew unexpectedly makes contact with Sam and she sets of on a one-woman rescue mission.
The story is told from Sam’s point of view, allowing us to understand her situation and emotions. When the couple are reunited, under difficult circumstances they are forced to concentrate on saving their own lives, rather than rebuilding their relationship. Devon Ashley carefully mixes the romantic content of the story, with the danger, reminding us of the couple’s humanity, even though they spend much of their time holding a gun!
Much of Sparrow 59 is fast-paced and Devon Ashley is not afraid of making her reader uncomfortable, which is particularly true of the books last few chapters. Sparrow 59 would be an ideal choice for readers who are looking for a change from their usual genre and I am already looking forward to its sequel.
Gloria’s head was shoved inside a black folder angled upward to keep its contents to herself. “Samantha Allen. Sparrow Special Agent number nine. Born Katelyn Ann Saunders. Current age twenty-three.”
Katie. It was like a whisper in my ear. The way he used to say it intimately when we were completely alone and could pretend we were still those lost little teenagers who were lucky enough to find one another. Katie…
I tried to shake off the warm tingle as it shot all the way up my spine. And I kept my mouth shut, as she clearly wasn’t invoking an answer from me yet anyway.
“You are paired with Sparrow Special Agent number five, Drew Allen, aka Matthew Alec Thompson. Also twenty-three. Your husband, is that correct?”
“In title, yes,” I said blandly, earning a glance.
“Is your relationship strictly business or have you advanced beyond the platonic phase?”
“Platonic phase?” I had to slam hard on the sarcasm brakes because it was my go-to defense mechanism. “Are fake married couples supposed to go through phases? Because we’re the same as we were the day we got ‘married.’” Yeah, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to rein in the urge to use actual air quotes. At least I didn’t lie. Our sexual relationship was still the same as the day we got married – hot, sweaty and dirty.
