Review of FLIGHT (THE CRESCENT CHRONICLES, #1) by ALYSSA ROSE IVY

BLURB

Sometimes you just have to take flight.

A summer in New Orleans is exactly what Allie needs before starting college. Accepting her dad’s invitation to work at his hotel offers an escape from her ex-boyfriend and the chance to spend the summer with her best friend. Meeting a guy is the last thing on her mind—until she sees Levi.

Unable to resist the infuriating yet alluring Levi, Allie finds herself at the center of a supernatural society and forced to decide between following the path she has always trusted or saving a city that might just save her.

REVIEW

Genre: romance,shapeshifters,couldn’t put down,urban fantasy
Rating: 5 wings

Where has Alyssa Rose Ivy been all my life? Ok, I admit that her books have been on my TBR pile and ‘Flight’ is the first one I have read, but now I am truly hooked!
From the first page of this book I knew I was sucked into Allie’s world. I really enjoyed the fact that Alyssa Rose Ivy set the book in New Orleans, but did not choose to use vampires in her story, in fact she created her own paranormal species (*swoon*).
I do not think Allie was an obvious choice for a paranormal heroine either – she is no Bella, Elena or Zoey (*thank goodness*) – she is likeable, feisty and fun, and she has Hailey as a BFF! Oh, and THAT love interest :-).
Alyssa Rose Ivy I wonder who you had in your mind when you created Levi??! He would be so pretty to look at but I may have to tie my hands together, so I didn’t slap him for his numerous faults!
The plot of ‘Flight’ is not deep or intense but the author knows how to keep her reader anticipating the next chapter. There is enough urban action to remind the reader of the story’s background and setting, but also strong fantasy and paranormal elements which allow imagination to override reality.
Apart from Levi and Allie there are also some strong characters which help to bring the plot together, like Hailey and Jared, although I was did not cry any tears when Allie’s friend Jess left New Orleans as I did not feel that she contributed to the story.
‘Flight’ is a brilliant book, in my opinion, and would be enjoyed by readers of paranormal romance or urban fantasy, or perhaps just those who have Alyssa Rose Ivy on their TBR list!
